Present Situation of Fiber Oil Additives at Home and Abroad
China is a big chemical fiber country, and the demand for oil agent is large. The output of several representative fibers in China in 2020 and the oil demand calculated from their oil loading rate are listed in Table 1 below
Fiber finishes and additives originated abroad. The history of the use of fiber finishes in Europe was during the First World War [1], while the development of chemical fiber finishes in China began in the 1970s and 1980s. At the beginning of this century, some domestic manufacturers took the lead in breaking the monopoly of foreign suppliers and developing domestic chemical fiber finishes. So far, DTY finishes, staple finishes and some cord finishes have been successfully localized. However, in the high-end spinning finishes, industrial finishes, carbon fiber finishes and other fields of civil fibers, imported finishes still occupy a dominant position, and their suppliers are relatively concentrated.
The industrial chain synergy of foreign fiber finishes is high. Industry experts generally believe that the reason why Germany and Japan are leading in oil additive technology is closely related to their leading equipment manufacturing. TMT in Japan and Bamag in Germany are the world's leading manufacturers of chemical fiber equipment. When they develop new equipment, they cooperate with their own oil agent manufacturers to research and develop the oil agent matching the new equipment at the same time. This means that when the new fiber equipment is introduced to the market, the Japanese or German oiling agent, as a supporting, is also introduced to the market. Taking FDY oil as an example, when TMT launched I-BOX, the matching crude oil oiling FDY oil was launched by Japanese oil agent manufacturers. Therefore, foreign oil agent manufacturers have natural advantages in the development and promotion of new oil agents.
Most foreign oiling agent manufacturers can achieve the matching of oiling agent, auxiliary agent or raw materials. Take Germany ShuangS as an example. They also produce antistatic agent, anti-corrosion agent, defoamer, bactericide, smoothing agent, etc. for fiber finishes. In Japan, Takemoto also produces and sells surfactants for oils. One of the main businesses of Daco is vegetable based oil esters, and FDY oil agent is one of the extended applications of its synthetic esters.

It is estimated that there are more than 50 domestic oiling agent manufacturers. Except for a few large DTY oiling agent manufacturers, other oiling agent manufacturers have not achieved scale effect in terms of brand, quality, oiling agent variety and customer coverage. The domestic oil agent and auxiliary manufacturers have just started to provide raw materials. Relatively speaking, the fiber oiling agent and auxiliary agent industry is less mature than lubricating oil, textile auxiliary agent, coating and other industries, and few raw material suppliers are willing to carry out supporting development for fiber oiling agent and auxiliary agent, which virtually increases the "barrier" between raw material suppliers and fiber oiling agent and auxiliary agent manufacturers, and lengthens the development time of fiber oiling agent and auxiliary agent products.
From the perspective of oil varieties, foreign fiber oil and auxiliary manufacturers are relatively rich. Taking Double S as an example, the company provides polyester POY oil, nylon POY, FDY oil, polypropylene POY oil, PTT/FDY oil, viscose fiber oil, polyester cotton oil, polyester wool oil and BCF oil [2]; Under each category, there are different specifications to choose from. While domestic oil agent manufacturers usually supply one or several product categories, the deep reason for the single category is worth exploring. Behind the variety is the technical support. A perfect and systematic technology is conducive to the rapid development of new products. The underlying technology of fiber finishes is wear and lubrication protection. According to the data, Europe and the United States conducted systematic research on fiber oil additives from the 1980s to the beginning of this century [1,3-5], and had a systematic understanding of the underlying technology; In addition, the accumulated experience makes it possible to have a rich variety of oils. Relatively speaking, there are few research reports on the bottom layer technology of oil agent and auxiliary agent in China, except that Ge Jijun [6, 7] has involved. The fiber oil additive industry needs to strengthen basic research and pay attention to the systematic construction of underlying technology.
From the perspective of patent analysis, domestic fiber finish patents mainly focus on protecting the composition of the finish, while foreign finish patents focus on specific components, specific indicators, synergies between components, and specific properties of the finish. It shows that the development of domestic oils and additives also focuses on the composition of the overall formula, while foreign fiber oils and additives, to a certain extent, have surpassed this stage and can conduct more refined regulation of products.
In the past two years, due to the impact of COVID-19, the supply of imported oilings has been tight, and some large and medium-sized chemical fiber manufacturers have begun to try domestic oilings and additives, which is conducive to the verification and technical improvement of domestic fiber oilings. For example, Zhejiang Chuanhua and Tiangongda have introduced several high-speed spinning finishes with excellent comprehensive performance to the market, such as TF-7616 and TF-7716, which can completely replace imported finishes with years of oil technology research and development accumulation. This will play an important role in improving the technology of domestic fiber finishes and additives, and eliminating the difference between domestic and foreign finishes.
